Shillong: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has officially granted approval for a new degree program in urban planning at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning in Tura, Meghalaya. Scheduled to commence during the 2026–27 academic session, the initiative will provide 30 seats for students interested in specializing in urban and regional planning.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the development, highlighting its importance for the state's educational landscape. The program will be affiliated with the Captain Williamson Sangma State University, ensuring that local students can access high-quality professional training without needing to travel outside the region.
Addressing the significance of this milestone, Chief Minister Sangma stated that the curriculum is designed to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of driving sustainable growth and organized infrastructure development. By building local capacity, the government aims to enhance the state's long-term vision for planned urban expansion and modern progress.
