Agartala: A special court in Tripura sentenced 27-year-old Suman Das to eight years of rigorous imprisonment on July 18, 2026. The Special Judge in the West District convicted Das under Section 22(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He also faces a fine of Rs 30,000. He must serve an extra month in jail if he fails to pay.

The case began on November 22, 2025. Officers from the Battala Outpost acted on a tip and stopped Das at the Battala Market in Agartala while he rode a scooty. A search turned up 350 suspected Yaba tablets weighing 31 grams and 9 grams of suspected heroin. "The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Chinmoy Bhowmik of West Agartala Police Station," who filed the chargesheet on January 16, 2026.

The legal proceedings took place under SPL NDPS Case No. 24/2026. This stemmed from the original West Agartala Police Station Case No. 130/2025. Evidence presented during the trial led the judge to deliver the guilty verdict after reviewing the police report.
