Adelbert Nongrum pushes Meghalaya youth toward vocational careers

Shillong: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum told local youth on Saturday to stop chasing scarce government jobs. Instead, he wants them to learn trades. Skills pay the bills. Nongrum spoke at the second anniversary of BH Accentuate Makeup, Hair and Academy in Shillong where he handed out certificates to new graduates.

The MLA praised academy founder Badap Hynniewta for leaving a career in New Delhi to open shop back home. Hynniewta returned to teach local students the ins and outs of makeup and hair styling. "He chose to come back and train young people instead of pursuing only his own career. That is a service to society," Nongrum said.

Riatsamthiah Rangbah Shnong M. Kharkrang also spoke at the event. He told the trainees to use their new skills to build better lives. Nongrum promised he would keep pushing youth issues and job training needs on the floor of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
