Women Hit the Streets in Shillong for HIV Awareness Run

Shillong: Nearly 200 women took over the streets of Shillong on Saturday for the city’s first all-women DJ run. Organized by the NGO SheHub and the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, the event hit the pavement to push HIV awareness and early testing.

Runners gathered at the Shillong Club at 5 am. They tackled a 4-km course behind a van blasting music. Fitness expert Dapalei Stacy Warjri led the warm-up before the pack headed out. IAS officer Sonali Verma joined the crowd to show support.

Founder Mansha Sharma said the goal goes beyond just one morning of exercise. "SheHub intends to foster a fitness culture and empower women to claim their space, connect, and make informed decisions regarding their health," Sharma stated.

Participants carried signs promoting prevention while the crowd watched. After the finish line, runners got medals and vouchers. Volunteers kept the momentum going at a help desk, offering on-site HIV testing to turn the day's message into real action.
