Shillong: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya hit a major milestone. Officials confirmed on July 29 that the school received recognition under Section 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The status change impacts the Ri-Bhoi institution immediately.
This designation opens the door for UGC-funded schemes and research grants. It also covers faculty development initiatives and collaborative projects. Students and researchers stand to gain as the university expands its academic footprint. USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque welcomed the news. "The recognition under Section 12(B) by the University Grants Commission is a proud moment for the entire USTM family," Hoque said.
USTM Vice Chancellor Prof. G. D. Sharma noted the move validates the university’s high standards. He expects the new status to bolster the academic ecosystem through better learning opportunities and deeper research ties. Since its start, the university has pushed for innovation, industry collaboration, and community development. This ranking confirms USTM remains a top private choice in Northeast India.
