Imphal: The United Peoples Front of Manipur formed its new Imphal East District Council this week. Members met at Nongmeipung Thamchet High School to finalize the 15-person committee. UPF Manipur president Nongthombam Bupa Chandra administered the oath of office to the new team.
Thouchom Ranbir, known as Momon, takes the helm as District President. He leads a team including Vice Presidents Nongthombam Bimom and Kshetrimayum Khurojit. Khumukcham Bikram serves as District Secretary, while Soram Somokanta handles duties as Joint Secretary. Kshetrimayum Bivek and Nam Robinson fill the roles of Finance Secretary and Organisation Secretary, respectively. Eight additional executive members round out the roster.
Publicity Secretary Ayrkpam Loyalakpa Meitei confirmed the appointments in a formal statement. The group now shifts its focus to local infrastructure and advocacy.
President Ranbir laid out his agenda for the district. He plans to work closely with the UPF headquarters to solve pressing problems. Farmers face a severe shortage of irrigation water. The council intends to pressure relevant departments to fix poor road conditions across Imphal East. Beyond infrastructure, the group wants to improve social ties. Ranbir said the council would "strive to strengthen peace, harmony and unity among the different communities residing in the district." He asked the public for their ongoing cooperation as the committee begins its work.
