Shillong: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, visited the Sports Authority of India centre at North Eastern Hill University in Shillong on Thursday. During her visit, the minister inspected various training facilities and observed the ongoing development of local athletes.
Khadse held extensive discussions with coaches and young sports participants, urging them to maintain discipline and dedication in their training. Demonstrating her own commitment to grassroots engagement, she participated in several activities including football and Indian round archery.
The minister highlighted the region's vast potential, noting that the North East possesses a deep-rooted sports culture. She stated that the government remains focused on improving infrastructure and coaching support to ensure regional athletes reach national and international podiums.
Regarding the Shillong facility, Khadse suggested that its climate and environment make it an ideal location for high-altitude training. She expressed confidence that the centre could become a premier destination for elite athletes preparing for major competitions with continued support and investment.
Beyond physical fitness, the minister emphasized that sports serve as a vital tool for building leadership and resilience. She noted that competitive athletics remain a powerful medium for driving both social development and national progress.
