Unauthorised collectors fleece motorists on Shillong city streets

Shillong: Shillong roads are now private cash machines. From Motphran to G.S. Road, anonymous collectors squeeze money out of every driver they find. These men wear no uniforms and carry no ID. They have no official authority to operate.

Public roads look like private lots. Butcher Road is now half a parking lot, blocking traffic for everyone. Drivers at the Jeep Stand get hit with fees too. There are no signs and no government oversight.

Drivers say the scam is obvious. Collectors hand out used receipts with serial numbers that repeat across different cars. This money never hits the state treasury. It disappears into a black hole.

Motorists are fed up. They claim officials are letting it happen. One report states, "The strongest evidence of a potential scam lies in the receipts issued to drivers."

Nobody knows who gave these collectors the green light. Farmers and workers pay the price while the parking mafia grows. The city demands a crackdown on these syndicates now.
