Shillong: The United Democratic Party is pushing hard for the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. Party leaders are crisscrossing the Khasi and Jaintia Hills for organisational meetings. They picked senior advocate Vivian Kynta to run. The work started the moment his name dropped.
UDP general secretary Titosstarwell Chyne said the response in Mairang and Mawngap looks good. "Chyne reported strong turnouts and positive public response at recent meetings held in the Mairang and Mawngap constituencies."
Campaign logistics are shifting. The party moved Jaintia Hills dates to dodge the Behdienkhlam festival. Meetings in Ri-Bhoi and West Khasi Hills were pushed back to keep clear of the busy planting season. They cannot disrupt local farming.
Kynta will face the crowd this Saturday. He joins party bosses in Nongthymmai to talk with local organizers. Chyne expects momentum to build through July. Voters seem to like the legal background Kynta brings to the race.
