Shillong: Two faculty members from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya earned a spot in the 2025 SciRank Global Registry. The ranking places them in the top five percent of scientists worldwide. Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta from the Department of Applied Biology and Dr. Mohit L. Deb from the Department of Chemistry took home the honors for their research impact. The registry ranks experts using data like citation counts and overall academic productivity.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque praised the pair for their work. He said, "This achievement is a matter of pride for USTM and the entire North Eastern region. It demonstrates that quality research from this region can compete with the best in the world."
This is a big win. Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma noted that the ranking proves the university is serious about high-quality research and team projects across different fields. The school opened in 2011 as the first private science university in Northeast India. It currently holds a NAAC A grade and works to grow its international profile through patents and published papers.
