Two Assam Rifles Soldiers Killed in Manipur Ambush

Imphal: Militants ambushed an Assam Rifles convoy in Ukhrul district on Monday. The attack killed two soldiers and left several others injured. It happened at 1:30 pm near the Nungshang Kong river while the 40 Assam Rifles detachment headed back to their headquarters in Shangshak.

The attackers used explosives and heavy gunfire to trap the soldiers. State leadership reacted quickly to the violence. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh called for justice while offering his condolences to the families of the fallen troops.

"I strongly condemn the heinous and cowardly militant ambush near Nungshangkong, Ukhrul, in which two brave personnel of the Assam Rifles laid down their lives in the line of duty," the Chief Minister said. He vowed that the state will take firm action against the perpetrators.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also issued a statement regarding the tragedy. He described the incident as a dastardly act of violence. The Governor emphasized that these attacks will not shake the government resolve to maintain law and order in the region. He also noted that he expects a swift recovery for the wounded soldiers.
