Shillong: Students hit the streets in Tura on Saturday. The Gorkha Welfare Society, Garo Hills, teamed up with the West Garo Hills District Administration and the District Social Welfare Office to host plays at Chandmary Field, Tura Supermarket, and the PA Sangma Sports Complex. Kids from Tura Town Higher Secondary School and Gorkha School ran the show after an opening dance.
Performers tackled the dangers of addiction and excessive screen time. They pushed for healthy living and better support for people stuck in the cycle of substance abuse. The plays aimed to pull youth away from screens and back into the real world. Organizers believe these students are key to social change.
This work fits into the Digital Detox and Anti-Drugs Awareness Programme 2026. The campaign kicked off September 18 with art and slogan contests at DC Park. It wraps up October 2 at the District Auditorium with seminars on digital health and addiction prevention.
Success requires cooperation between families, schools, and the government. The society keeps hitting one core message: “Choose Life. Stay Healthy. Stay Drug-Free.”
