Tripura Reports Hundreds of Illegal Border Crossings

Agartala: Tripura recorded 446 cases of illegal infiltration along its border with Bangladesh between 2023 and 2025. The state Home Department released these figures on August 31 during the Legislative Assembly's final session. CPI(M) MLA Sudip Sarkar prompted the disclosure while questioning officials about state and central security efforts.

The state shares an 856-km boundary with Bangladesh. Infiltration remains a major headache for authorities. The Home Department stated, "The state government is working with Central agencies to prevent infiltration and improve surveillance along vulnerable stretches."

State police, the BSF, the Special Branch, and intelligence units now coordinate closely with district administrations. These teams conduct joint patrols, vehicle searches, and naka checks on routes prone to illegal entry. Officials hold regular review meetings to map hotspots, track arrests, and fix gaps in border fencing.

Security forces also installed temporary concertina coils and barbed wire at vulnerable bridges and culverts. These barriers aim to plug holes in the line and sharpen cooperation between the various agencies managing the border.
