Shillong: Travelers visiting Meghalaya are facing significant frustrations due to the poor condition of roadside eateries along the Guwahati-Shillong Road. Tourists report that several establishments where cabs frequently stop for refreshments are plagued by unsanitary facilities, excessive pricing, and unprofessional staff.
Visitors are often limited to a small selection of five to six specific dhabas during their commute. Many travelers have expressed disgust over the state of the restrooms, which are often the only options available during the journey. One traveler stated, “These dhabas should at least maintain basic hygiene. The toilets are in a terrible state.”
Beyond hygiene concerns, visitors have documented instances of price gouging. A traveler at R Warjri Veg Dhaba was charged 100 rupees for a single piece of puri, and the manager responded with hostility when questioned about the cost. Similar reports of poor management and cleanliness issues have emerged regarding various dhabas in the Nongpoh area.
Tourists are now calling on the Food Commissionerate to conduct immediate inspections. They hope that enforcing stricter maintenance standards will prevent health risks and improve the overall experience for those traveling to the state capital.
