Agartala: Krishnapur MLA and Minister Bikash Debbarma is financing the repair of a battered road in Baralunga. Farmers in the Madhya Krishnapur Gram Panchayat have pushed for this fix for years. The route connects their fields to essential trade hubs like New Market. It was crumbling.
Poor road conditions stalled the transport of paddy and vegetables. Farmers struggled to hit market windows on time. The repair project aims to cut those transportation hurdles and boost the local economy. Officials believe the work will help growers sell their goods with ease once finished.
Debbarma also tackled market infrastructure. He oversaw the installation of a high-mast light at New Market to keep trade moving after sunset. The minister inspected the lights during a recent evening visit, confirming they serve farmers and traders when the power grid falters. He spoke with locals during the trip.
He was joined by Khowai Zilla Parishad member Ranjit Sarkar and Mandal vice-president Gopal Das. One local resident noted the progress, saying, "The improved road connectivity could reduce transportation-related difficulties for farmers, facilitate better marketing of agricultural produce and contribute positively to the rural economy of the area."
Baralunga has a dark history. Militant attacks in 2003 forced many families to flee their homes and abandoned lands. Normalcy eventually returned to the region. Farmers headed back to their fields to rebuild their lives. Now, they are scaling up production. Better roads are the final piece of the puzzle.
