Guwahati: Thirteen-year-old Mehboob Hussain died Saturday afternoon when an autorickshaw plummeted 200 feet into a gorge near Ghilaitikar View Point at Dohalia Hill in Assam. The vehicle veered off the Patharkandi-Ratabari road at a sharp bend. It was carrying the registration number AS-10-AC-0791.
Hussain, the nephew of Kazirbazar Paldhar Gram Panchayat member Fariz Uddin, died on impact. Three family members survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. Yarun Nessa, the boy's mother, and Shakil Ahmed, his uncle, were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. His grandmother, Lodi Bibi, remains under care at Karimganj Civil Hospital.
Locals heard the crash. They raced to the site to start rescue efforts before Ratabari Police Station personnel arrived to assist. Authorities pulled the victims from the wreckage and moved them to a nearby health facility for initial stabilization.
Police transported the boy's body to Karimganj Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigators have officially opened a case into the incident. The family was heading home from a relative's house when the tragedy occurred. Police are currently working to determine why the vehicle went out of control, stating, "Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident."
