Imphal: The Tangkhul Naga Long is demanding a full investigation into a fatal ambush on Assam Rifles troops. Gunmen struck near the Lungshang River along National Highway 202 at 1:45 pm on July 6.
Two soldiers died. Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman CM Singh were both attached to the 40 Assam Rifles unit based in Shangshak. The attack killed them instantly.
The Tangkhul Naga Long, an apex civil society group, condemned the violence. They fear this will derail peace efforts in the state. The group stated that the violent incident "has dealt a serious blow to the ongoing peace-building initiatives undertaken by Tangkhul civil society organisations in conflict-affected Manipur."
No group claimed the hit. The committee wants the shooters identified and held accountable. They also warned the public against spreading rumors. Baseless accusations only hurt the current, fragile peace.
