Imphal: Security forces intercepted a vehicle masquerading as an Army officer's car on Sunday morning, uncovering 15.35 kilograms of suspected opium hidden in a secret compartment. The joint operation involved the Special Operations Team of Senapati Police, D-78 CRPF, B-109 QAT CRPF, and 16 Assam Rifles at the T. Khullen check post.

Authorities stopped an Innova vehicle around 9:00 AM after noticing it displayed the insignia of an Army Brigadier and a VIP flag. Despite these markings, the driver, 45-year-old Tarkeshwar Singh of Tinsukia, Assam, was traveling alone without an official escort. This discrepancy prompted a search of the vehicle, which revealed 17 packets of contraband concealed near the rear right door.

The seized items included a nameplate inscribed with "ARMY" on one side and "MINISTRY OF DEFENSE" on the other. Police confirmed that neither the driver nor the vehicle had any legitimate connection to the military. Investigators believe the accused used the fake insignia to bypass security checkpoints.

Singh was arrested in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. Officers also seized the vehicle, two mobile phones, personal identification documents, and 5,000 rupees in cash. A case has been registered at the Senapati Police Station, and officials are now working to identify the source and destination of the narcotics as part of an ongoing investigation.
