Imphal: The Supreme Court on Monday closed a public interest litigation filed by the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights. The decision followed confirmation that the blockade on National Highway 2 was cleared. Essential goods are moving again. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, alongside Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana, presided over the hearing.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati reported that the highway is fully operational. Commercial vehicles are back on the road. The petitioner, represented by Senior Advocate Anand Grover, cited a Manipur government order from August 28, 2026, which mandated the removal of all obstructions on national and state highways. Grover told the bench that his client's grievances were addressed as long as the state follows through on that order.
The court noted the state's status report on the clearing operations. Officials are now working to remove remaining blockades across other regional routes. Previous court directives aimed to stop illegal extortion from trucks and vehicles entering the state. The justices had previously warned that highway blockades were hurting ordinary citizens by blocking food, fuel, and medicine. With the supply lines restored, the court declared the petition infructuous and ended the proceedings.
