Kohima: A thunderstorm ripped through Kohima on July 3, wrecking a key power transformer at the 132/33/11kV RESS station. The failure left swaths of the district in the dark for nearly six hours. Power remains spotty across the region.
Er Namheu Khate Zeliang, Executive Engineer for the Transmission Division, said crews are working to fix the grid. They are installing alternate arrangements to get lines back online. It is a slow process.
The department warned that temporary fixes will not handle the full demand. Officials expect to restrict electricity use while repairs drag on, leading to more frequent load shedding in the coming days. The department asked residents to stay patient during the blackout, stating they are "making all-out efforts to restore power supply at the earliest" through these alternate arrangements.
