Sikkim MP Pushes for Permanent Fix to NH-10 Landslide Crisis

Gangtok: Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on July 27. He demanded a permanent fix for the constant landslides plaguing National Highway-10. This road is the lifeline for the entire state.

Subba delivered a formal memorandum detailing how the road collapses choke off trade, tourism, and basic supply lines. He argued that routine slope stabilization efforts simply do not work. The ground keeps sliding. Frequent monsoon closures continue to trap residents and halt the flow of essential goods.

The MP proposed building tunnels to bypass the most dangerous sections of the highway. He believes this is the only way to guarantee all-weather access for the region. "I urged the Union Minister to engage technical experts to identify the most suitable engineering solution and ensure its timely implementation," Subba said. He wants a deep geotechnical investigation to finish the job once and for all.
