Gangtok: The Sikkim Home Department has filed a formal police complaint following the circulation of a fabricated document that falsely claimed a merger between Sikkim and Darjeeling. The document, which was incorrectly attributed to the Union Home Minister, spread rapidly across various social media platforms.

State officials stated the content was designed to spread misinformation, incite public panic, and threaten the state's communal harmony. In response, an FIR has been registered at the Sadar Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The investigation is now being handled by the Cyber Crime Police Station, which is working to trace the origin of the posts, identify responsible individuals, and track associated IP addresses.

The government is currently coordinating with authorities to remove the misleading posts from digital platforms. Enhanced surveillance measures have been put in place to monitor for further malicious activity. Officials have urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the territorial integrity and unity of the state.
