Sikkim Dance Group to Represent India at Vietnam Folklore Festival

Gangtok: Dynamic Flickers Dance Academy from Sikkim is heading to Vietnam. They will represent India at the International Ethnic Folklore Festival from October 6 to 11. It is a big stage. The event runs under the theme Let is Dance for World Peace and features folk performers from around the globe.

UNESCO associates with the festival, according to state officials. The academy earned this trip after winning Sikkim is Golden Feet competition. That victory came with a Rs 30 lakh cash prize. The group is using that money to cover their travel and participation costs.

Co-founder Dilu Tamang says the group aims to bring regional traditions to a global audience. She noted, "We are excited to inform that this is an opportunity for us to showcase our culture through dance." She added that the Golden Feet competition provided the essential funding for this international mission.

Yougan Tamang, press secretary to the Sikkim Chief Minister, said this success highlights the state is goal of finding and backing local talent. The academy is no stranger to high-stakes performances. They previously grabbed top honors at the 2022 National Tribal Dance Competition in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Now, they prepare to present their cultural identity in Vietnam.
