Gangtok: Sikkim BJP president DR Thapa led a party delegation through the Tumin-Lingi constituency on July 3. They arrived to survey wreckage left by heavy landslides on June 27. The team hit Kaw, Chowridara, Darakharka, and Lingi to talk with displaced families. Locals have spent seven days completely cut off from the rest of the state.
A possible cloudburst triggered the slide. It wiped out the Sapta Kanya Falls site and a cafeteria built for 13 crore rupees. The Kaw Khola Bridge also sustained heavy damage. This structure acts as a vital link for the Lingi-Payong area. Without it, dairy farmers cannot move milk to Sikkim Milk, choking off their primary income.
The delegation visited 16 families hiding out at the Darakharka Primary School. Party leaders checked the shelter conditions and told the families to list their immediate needs. "The damaged bridge needs immediate restoration to re-establish connectivity and support relief operations," the team stated during the visit.
Thapa spoke with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to demand more crews and heavy machines for the road repairs. The party promised to keep pushing the administration to speed up the recovery process. They vowed to supply food and medicine to those in need while crews work to reopen the blocked routes.
