Shillong Muharram Procession Ends Peacefully

Shillong: The Mawbah Muharram Akhara Committee in Shillong wrapped up a successful Muharram procession on June 26. The group issued a statement thanking the many people who kept the peace. Joint secretary Arif A Khongsit credited the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills and the Superintendent of Police for their help.

Local MLA Paul Lyngdoh and the Lumdiengjri Traffic Branch provided support. The committee also acknowledged the Jhalupara Police Outpost and the Mawbah Dorbar Shnong. The group expressed "heartfelt gratitude to all participants, government officials, security personnel and community leaders" for their cooperation.

Separately, the Rotary Club Shillong Heritage issued a correction regarding a photo printed in the paper on July 2. The club clarified that the acronym ARC in the caption refers to the Assam Regimental Centre. It is not the Assam Rifles Centre as previously printed.
