Shillong Clears Messy Overhead Wires in Cleanup Drive

Shillong: The Shillong Municipal Board is tearing down a massive web of tangled, dead wires across the city. Crews started pulling the eyesores apart in the Police Bazar district this week. The project aims to scrub away years of neglected infrastructure.

State officials mapped out the cleanup during a sit-down with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd, and various internet and cable providers. The group agreed to coordinate the removal of all abandoned lines and dangling equipment. Officials hope to finish the work in stages. It is a push to tidy up the city before the National Games arrive next year.

As the board moves forward, authorities maintain that the cleanup is a "phased approach to address cable clutter." The city remains under pressure to fix its aesthetics ahead of the major sporting event.
