Imphal: Security forces swept through three Manipur districts on Tuesday, netting two insurgent fighters and a local extortionist. The arrests followed a string of coordinated operations aimed at cooling off the valley districts.
Officers hauled in Keisham Kenedy Singh, 38, from his hideout in the Utlou area of Bishnupur. He belongs to the outlawed Revolutionary People’s Front, the political wing of the People’s Liberation Army. Police nabbed him under the Nambol Police Station jurisdiction.
In the neighboring Kakching district, troops grabbed Moirangthem Thoiba Singh, 30. He is a member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party-Nongdrenkhomba group. Forces caught him near his home in Sugnu.
The third arrest took place in Imphal West. Officers detained Ningthoujam Roshan Singh, 29, at his Lamsang residence. Police said he had been "extorting money from vehicles passing through the area."
Authorities seized various communication devices and incriminating paperwork during the raids. The trio now sits in police custody while investigators prepare legal proceedings.
