Kohima: The State College of Teacher Education in Kohima held a mental health workshop on September 18. Dr. Viketoulie Pienyu, a retired medical officer from the State Mental Health Institute, led the session. He warned the audience about the long-term impact of stress. He urged attendees to find the root causes of depression instead of just treating symptoms.
Mental health requires community support. Dr. Pienyu pushed for patience and actionable help for those in distress. He noted, "Mental well-being is a shared responsibility." Dr. Thronlem Jorlim Konyak chaired the event, and Dr. Rokuonuo Usou delivered the final vote of thanks.
The college followed this by observing International Peace Day on September 21. The theme was Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday. Principal Dr. T. Alemla Longkumer opened the event by calling educators ambassadors of peace. Student-teacher Ruovinuo Usou discussed the importance of empathy and dialogue among young people.
Rev. T. Karang Maram served as the keynote speaker. He argued that peace is an ongoing process of mutual respect rather than just the absence of fighting. He called for a focus on positive peace, which centers on justice and social harmony. Student-teacher Jonjbemo led the assembly in a peace pledge to end the program.
