Sao Chang College Hosts Palliative Care Awareness Seminar

Kohima: The Mentoring Committee at Sao Chang College in Tuensang hosted a palliative care awareness session on July 11. They worked with the St. Joseph Pain and Palliative Care Centre based in Chümoukedima to reach students and staff. The auditorium filled up for the presentation.

Sr. Teris MSJ, the centre administrator, and Councillor Sr. Cicil Therese MSJ led the talk. They explained the center’s mission to provide holistic and personalized support for those dealing with terminal or chronic sickness. The SJPC runs a strict no-cost policy. They offer medical, spiritual, and emotional aid without charging a single cent. As the speakers noted, "While there may be limits to curing terminal illnesses, there should never be limits to providing care, comfort, dignity and hope."

The centre provides a wide range of services. This includes home-based care, street outreach, end-of-life support, and psychosocial counselling. The speakers urged the students to step up as volunteers. They stressed that community service is vital for effective care. The event finished with a call for more empathy and social responsibility across the student body.
