Road Damage Triggers Travel Restrictions in Zunheboto and Mangkolemba

Kohima: Heavy rains have shredded road infrastructure across multiple districts. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Akuluto issued a travel advisory on July 23 for National Highway 702A. A stretch of the Zunheboto to Mokokchung road at Lumami village remains damaged. Authorities have ordered all medium and heavy vehicles to take a lengthy detour. This includes loaded trucks, pick-ups, and buses traveling between Mokokchung and Akuluto.

The alternative route spans Mokokchung, Longsa, Sapotimi, Zhekuto, Khuniho, Kholeboto, Suruhoto, Aichisaghemi, Naltoga, Asukhomi, and Akuluto. Light vehicles should use the upper approach road through Lumami village. This bypass runs from the Centenary Monument to the LSE Kinimi Building. The site sits about 500 metres from the Lumami village gate. Traffic there stays under strict regulation. Officials urged commuters to "strictly adhere to the advisory, drive cautiously, follow traffic signage and comply with the instructions of officials deployed at the site."

The restrictions will stay in place until further notice. Meanwhile, the ADC of Mangkolemba took separate action. A new order bans all heavy vehicles from the Jangpetkong and Japukong ranges immediately. The district administration confirmed that persistent downpours caused the damage. These road failures now pose clear threats to public safety.
