Agartala: Parthasarathi Das, a retired headmaster, transformed his Udaipur home into the Ankuran Biology Lab. The former biology teacher spent decades molding minds at Udaipur Vivekananda Vidyapith. He finally realized his long-held ambition after retiring in February 2024. The lab offers students a hands-on alternative to textbook theory.

Das first plotted the home lab in 1991. The 2020 pandemic accelerated his work. He crafted scientific models during the global lockdown. The collection grew alongside his passion. Today, his home houses 65 fish and animal species from Tripura. He also maintains nearly 90 varieties of plant leaves. Plaster of Paris models fill the remaining space. He believes in tactile learning.

Students visit for free. The facility forces kids to look beyond imagination. Teachers from various schools have already toured the site. Officials from the Gomati District Education Department and the Secondary Education administration inspected the lab virtually on November 6, 2025. They loved the project. The District Education Officer now tells local schools to include the lab in their study tours.

Das sees his work as a direct extension of his career. "Science is best understood when it can be seen, touched and explored," he says. His home bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical reality. Curiosity now thrives in his living room. It serves as a reminder that a dedicated teacher never truly stops working.
