Shillong: Residents and farmers in the Rajabala area of West Garo Hills want a magisterial inquiry. They petitioned the deputy commissioner to investigate an employee of SAI Computers Ltd. This company works as a franchisee for the MePDCL. The complaint alleges the staffer runs an unauthorized collection racket that targets poor consumers.
The employee allegedly used threats to disconnect power lines during door-to-door visits. Some charges are strange. "The complainants alleged that the employee demanded and collected rice and paddy from farmers in exchange for attending to technical faults or carrying out routine maintenance."
Refusing to pay came with a cost. Victims faced harassment through manipulated bills, arbitrary penalties, and intentional power cuts. These tactics caused severe financial hardship across the plain belt region. Residents now demand an independent investigation into the claims. They want the deputy commissioner to take strict legal and departmental action against the perpetrator if the probe confirms the abuse of authority.
