Shillong: Police are investigating the movements of a man and a woman seen entering the apartment of Delhi University professor Debosmita Paul on the day she was murdered. The pair, both wearing masks and carrying bags, arrived at the Satyam Apartments complex in Vasundhara Enclave via a private cab on June 3 at approximately 3:20 p.m.
Surveillance footage shows the two individuals avoiding the elevator and taking the stairs to reach the flat. They reportedly spent about 30 minutes inside the residence before exiting, appearing to wear different clothing upon their departure. Authorities have detained the cab driver for questioning as they attempt to identify the passengers and determine if the visit occurred before or after the killing.
The investigation into the death of the Shivaji College assistant professor is leaning toward the possibility of a targeted attack by someone she knew. Officials found no signs of forced entry, which has strengthened the theory of a “friendly entry,” where the victim voluntarily allowed the visitors inside.
The case surfaced when the victim's sister, Devarati Paul, grew concerned after her calls went unanswered and discovered the body locked inside the flat. Medical examiners report that the victim suffered a severe head injury and wrist wounds. A post-mortem examination is currently underway at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital to confirm the precise cause of death while police continue to interview neighbors and staff.
