Shillong: Meghalaya police busted a drug operation in the East Khasi Hills district on July 6. The Anti-Infiltration Directorate and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force teamed up for the raid. They checked 35 people. Some suspects bolted at the sight of the badge, but officers caught two targets.
Rahim Ali, 43, and his wife, Jaibanu, 35, are behind bars. Officers searched the pair and found 116 vials of suspected heroin. The stash weighed 14.42 grams. Witnesses watched as police bagged the evidence.
The team reviewed ID documents from several other individuals during the crackdown. Police said, "The documents will be sent for verification with the respective authorities." Officers registered a case at the Sadar Police Station. The couple faces charges under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act. Detectives are still working the case.
