Pilgrim Killed, Another Injured in Assam Truck Collision

Guwahati: A truck struck two Bol Bam pilgrims riding bicycles in Malputa, Assam, on August 9. The incident occurred at 4:30 pm in the Morigaon district. Manab Jyoti Das of Nabeti died at the scene. Dadul Kakati suffered serious injuries in the collision.

The pair was biking back to Morigaon after finishing a pilgrimage from Nijarapaar in Jagiroad. A truck, identified by plate number AS 01 NC 8626, slammed into the men from behind. The driver ditched the truck and fled. Neighbors found the victims shortly after the impact. They rushed Kakati to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have yet to locate the driver. Local residents described the scene as chaotic, noting, "The truck driver reportedly fled the spot immediately after the accident." Police work continues to track the suspect.
