Kohima: The Sakhi One Stop Centre in Phek district logged 153 cases of violence. These cases include rape and domestic abuse. Centre Administrator Menu-u Tsuhah released the figures on September 18. She spoke during an awareness drive held at Vamuzo Memorial Town Hall in Chozuba.
The centre provides a safety net for victims. It offers free shelter for up to 20 days. Victims can access counselling, monetary help, and video conferencing. Tsuhah appealed to the public to use these resources when needed. The event functioned under the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti. The District Administration Phek and the District Legal Services Authority collaborated to host the session.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Zapuno Khatso delivered the keynote address. She pushed for a secure environment for women and children. District Mission Coordinator Vileno K Thisa noted that Mission Shakti offers 24x7 services. She warned against ignoring safety guidelines. "The mission has made a large impact on society since its inception," Thisa said.
Legal experts detailed the protections available under the law. Retainer Lawyer Sekhotso Rokha explained the POCSO Act. He noted that the district recorded 28 cases this year, including 15 POCSO matters. Free legal aid remains available for women, children, and anyone earning less than Rs 1,00,000 annually. Extra Assistant Commissioner Dr Cthitu Nienu chaired the meeting, which drew village leaders and frontier organisations.
