Phek groups demand justice following minor's sexual assault

Kohima: The Phek Town Council and the Chakhesang Students' Union condemned the sexual assault of a minor in Phek district. Police arrested the suspect on June 30. Both groups demanded a fast, impartial investigation under the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Officials labeled the crime barbaric. They want the perpetrator punished to the full extent of the law. The council praised police for the quick arrest. They also told the public to protect the victim's identity at all costs.

The Chakhesang Students' Union expressed alarm over rising abuse cases in the area. They promised to watch the court proceedings to prevent delays. "Silence protects perpetrators; timely reporting and collective action protects our children," the union stated in a press release.

The union also called for better protection for the survivor and any witnesses. Community members, parents, and churches must now step up. Everyone needs to work together to keep kids safe from predators.
