Guwahati: Persistent heavy rain across Assam’s Barak Valley has triggered widespread flooding and severe infrastructure damage, leading to significant disruption for local residents. Water has inundated numerous neighborhoods, forcing citizens to navigate difficult living conditions as daily life comes to a standstill.

Road connectivity has suffered major setbacks throughout the region. Commuters are facing dangerous conditions on the Silchar-Guwahati route, particularly along the Kalain-Katigorah-Gumra stretch of the national highway. Damage is also reported on the vital link between Sribhumi and Agartala, where broken pavement has made travel increasingly hazardous.

Public anger is mounting as residents continue to demand urgent intervention from the government to clear drainage systems and repair transit routes. In Sribhumi, frustration boiled over as locals staged a protest against the deteriorating situation despite the ongoing downpour.

Amid these challenges, the Sribhumi Municipal Board has announced plans to clear illegal encroachments. The board issued a formal notice stating that all shops and structures built on government land will be demolished, with the owners held financially responsible for the recovery costs of the operation.
