Shillong: Pakistan wants out of India. The Pakistan Hockey Federation officially asked the Asian Hockey Federation on Wednesday to relocate its upcoming Asian Champions Trophy matches to a neutral venue. The board hopes to keep the team in the tournament while dodging political friction.
PHF president Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani cited the delicate ties between the two nations as the primary driver. He wants a secure, stable home for his squad. “The decision has been taken in view of the current sensitive bilateral situation between Pakistan and India and the prevailing security conditions, with the aim of ensuring a safe, dignified and conducive environment for the national players and officials,” Wani stated.
The federation requested a full tournament relocation or, at the very least, moving all Pakistan-specific games to safer soil. The ball is now in the court of the Asian Hockey Federation. Officials must weigh the logistical nightmare of shifting the schedule against the safety demands of the Pakistani team. No word yet on a final ruling.
