Padma Shri Awardee Encourages Planting Trees to Honor Mothers and Fight Climate Change

Imphal: Padma Shri awardee and retired CRPF Commandant Nameirakpam Kunjarani has issued a call for collective environmental action, urging people to plant trees in honor of their mothers. Speaking at a plantation event titled Planting Trees in Memory of Mothers, held at an old age home in Langjing Achouba, Kunjarani emphasized that individual efforts could play a vital role in slowing global warming.

Kunjarani expressed deep concern over rising global temperatures and their impact on all life forms. She advocated for an end to the indiscriminate burning and cutting of forests, encouraging the public to focus on reforestation and long-term preservation instead. She highlighted that simply planting saplings is not enough, as people must actively care for the trees to ensure they survive and thrive.

During her address, she shared her vision for a greener future by stating, "Every person should plant at least one tree in the name of their mother. Such efforts will help protect the environment and contribute to addressing the challenges posed by global warming."

The event was supported by several notable guests, including W. Nandini Devi of the 86 Battalion CRPF Headquarters, alongside various advisors and administrators from the Old Age Home. Residents and staff members also joined the initiative to plant trees, marking a community-wide commitment to environmental stewardship.
