Shillong: Energy security keeps the economy moving. Abhijit Majumder, Director of Finance at Oil India Limited, warned on Monday that distant global disruptions hit local markets hard. He pointed to volatility in the Strait of Hormuz as proof that energy flow remains fragile.
Majumder spoke during a live relay in Shillong for the India Energy Week 2027 curtain raiser. The main event took place in Kolkata with Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in attendance. "India must find, produce, and recover more from its own resources to secure reliable, affordable energy for its growing economy," Majumder stated.
The government is pushing domestic reforms to build resilience. The Open Acreage Licensing Policy now offers investors a more transparent framework. Meanwhile, the National Offshore Exploration scheme, Samudra Manthan, targets deep-water reserves using new technology and better data. These moves aim to reduce dependence on imports.
Innovation drives the 2027 agenda. Officials look to artificial intelligence and digital operations to speed up resource discovery and lower costs. The previous 2026 event hosted 75,000 participants and delegates from 120 countries. Organizers hope the upcoming summit will bridge the gap between policy, capital, and industry expertise.
