Shillong: Nongkseh SSCC claimed their first Meghalaya State League title on June 5, overcoming an early deficit to defeat Langsning FC 2-1. The match, held at a packed SSA Stadium, marked a triumphant end to the club's debut season in the competition.
Langsning FC took the lead during first-half stoppage time following an own goal by Banpynkhrawnam Nongkhlaw. Nongkseh responded after the break when captain Hardy Cliff Nongbri equalized in the 61st minute from a Sheen Sohktung delivery. Shano Tariang secured the win seven minutes later by converting a counterattack orchestrated by Kitboklang Pale.
As champions, Nongkseh received the trophy and a record prize of Rs 8 lakh, while Langsning earned Rs 5 lakh. The tournament, organized by the Meghalaya Football Association, featured 33 teams across 139 matches. Because the event met All India Football Federation standards, the victory grants Nongkseh a spot in the upcoming I-League 3.
Individual honors went to Kitboklang Pale, who was named Player of the Final, while Hardy Cliff Nongbri earned Player of the Tournament. Guidle Syiemlieh was recognized as Best Goalkeeper, and Nelson Rymbai of Langsning claimed the top scorer title with 23 goals.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the event to praise the high level of play and the resurgence of the sport. "What a final," he said, noting his appreciation for the competitive spirit shown by both clubs. The tournament concluded as part of the association's Golden Jubilee celebrations, marking a significant milestone for regional football.
