Aizawl: National Human Rights Commission Special Rapporteur Sayeed Ahmed Baba visited Saitual district this week. He pushed for more public awareness on human rights and requested better de-addiction and counseling services for local youth. Substance abuse remains a major concern for the region.
Baba reminded department heads that their daily work directly influences public well-being. He stated, "The NHRC was established to protect and promote the human rights of every individual." Government officials must ensure they respect these rights in every interaction.
Saitual District Commissioner Srinivas Sadi led the meeting and promised to follow the Rapporteur’s suggestions. Representatives from the Sub-Hqrs YMA also attended the briefing. Sadi presented a full breakdown of current district operations.
Baba spent two days touring local facilities to check on government initiatives. His Monday schedule included stops at the PM Shri School, Primary School-II, the Anganwadi Centre-I, the Eklavya Model Residential School at Ngopa, and a ginger processing unit in Hliappui. He hit the One Stop Centre, the local police station, and the district hospital on Tuesday before heading to Champhai.
