Kohima: K Neibou Sekhose opened the new Merhülietsa Colony gate on July 3. He serves as the T Khel Council Chairman. The structure stands in Ward 18 of the Kohima Municipal Council. This build is part of the Iconic Project 2025-26 led by local MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Ato Rhütso.
Rhütso pushed for the project to build community ties across the town. He views the gate as a nod to traditional Naga village markers. These gates signify protection for the people inside. He wants the entrance to bring health and safety to those who pass through it.
Sekhose spoke to the crowd during the ceremony. He praised the MLA for the work. "May this gate stand tall for unity, peace and progress of the state capital," Sekhose said. He noted that the project provided more than just raw materials to the residents.
The gate marks the identity of the area. Organizers hope it fosters a spirit of oneness for all visitors. The ceremony featured an invocation by Rev. Vizolie Zhale. Vizolie Viluo ran the event, while Dilo Koza offered final thanks.
