Shillong: Nepal Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal arrived in New Delhi on Friday for his first official three-day visit to India since taking office. The trip aims to deepen the long-standing partnership between the two nations through a series of high-level diplomatic exchanges.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the significance of the meeting during a press briefing. He noted the expansive nature of the current diplomatic agenda, stating, "With Nepal, we have an expansive agenda from development cooperation to people-to-people ties to trade and investment."
Khanal is scheduled to hold formal talks with India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday. The discussions will cover a broad range of topics, including energy, investment, trade, and infrastructure connectivity. According to officials in Kathmandu, specific focus will be placed on improving road, rail, and air networks to better link the two neighboring countries.
The visit follows recent high-level contact, including a meeting between Khanal and Jaishankar at the Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius this past April. It also aligns with recent diplomatic efforts by Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane, who met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week to discuss digital corridors and civilizational bonds. Khanal is expected to conclude his visit and return to Kathmandu on June 7.
