Gangtok: Namchi officials have ordered a total mobilization to fix flood-battered Lingi-Paiyong. Flash floods on June 28 destroyed critical roads and bridges, leaving local villages isolated. District Collector Anupa Tamling ordered the push during a review meeting Friday after touring the wreckage.

Crews must clear debris from blocked roads and build temporary log bridges immediately. The Forest Department is now picking trees for these crossings. Officials want these routes open so students can reach school, though the district will move classes online until paths are safe. "The situation demands the utmost urgency. Relief, restoration and rehabilitation must remain our highest priorities, and all departments must work in close coordination to ensure early restoration of normalcy," Tamling said.

Food supplies are moving to the area now. The Health Department is setting up medical camps for vulnerable residents, including seniors and children. Workers are also rushing to fix power lines and water pipes that failed during the storm.

Farmers face heavy crop losses. The Agriculture Department is out in the fields to assess damage to irrigation systems. Meanwhile, the local milk industry gets a lifeline: the Sikkim Co-operative Milk Producers' Union Limited is opening a temporary collection point to keep supply chains running.
