Kohima: Nagaland University celebrated International Microorganism Day on September 17. The Department of Biotechnology at the Kohima Campus teamed up with the Microbiologists Society, India, Nagaland Chapter. They focused on the theme: Tiny Organisms, Big Impact: Microbes for a Sustainable Future.
Prof Sujata Dash served as the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony. Dr Rajkrishna Mondal chaired the session. Convener Prof Pranav Kumar Prabhakar opened the event. He told the crowd: "the microbial world may be invisible, but its impact is everywhere." He urged students to push scientific boundaries.
The event drew 12 institutions from across the globe. Ten came from India, including Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Nagaland. Two international schools joined the mix. They held six unique contests. These included a quiz, poster making, rangoli, model making, reel making, and microbial art.
Participation was strong. The quiz saw 28 entries, while poster making drew 22. Fourteen students made rangoli, 9 built models, 17 created reels, and 16 submitted microbial art. Thirty-three attendees came from Nagaland University. Dr Hanumant Singh Rathore delivered the final report. The day highlighted how microbes drive health, food production, and environmental safety.
