Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio opened 16 new sports projects on Friday. The move aims to turn the state into a breeding ground for athletes ready for national and international competition. Sports is no longer just a hobby. It is a booming industry that creates jobs and drives the economy.

The state government funded 12 of these projects. The remaining four came via the federal Khelo India initiative. Officials want to sharpen the skills of local coaches while giving homegrown talent more time in the spotlight. Better gear and better training will follow.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya joined the virtual event. He signaled strong federal support for the region. Mandaviya wrote on X that the government intends to develop the region into a hub of sporting excellence. The state now looks to raise the bar for its young competitors.
