Kohima: Nagaland marked the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30 with urgent warnings about online predators. Officials in Wokha and Mokokchung focused on the theme "Trapped Behind the Scam" to expose how traffickers use digital traps to snare vulnerable people.
In Wokha, the District Administration, Social Welfare Department, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Sakhi-One Stop Centre, and Child Helpline hosted students at Santsuo School. The event fell under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. Nzanmongi, a legal case worker at Sakhi-OSC, warned students about deceptive lures. She said, "The deceptive methods commonly employed by traffickers to lure vulnerable individuals through fraudulent online schemes and false promises" require constant vigilance.
Students learned to spot warning signs and report threats. They were told to avoid suspicious links and verify all employment offers. Helplines were shared to ensure kids have a direct path to safety.
Mokokchung held its own session at Police Station-I. The District Child Protection Unit brought together the Child Welfare Committee, Women Police, and Child Helpline staff. Resource person T. Asula Imsong pointed to fake job offers as a growing menace. ASI Limawati told the crowd that online scams are primary gateways to exploitation. The attendees called for a united front involving government agencies, schools, and civil society.
Separately, the Mokokchung DCPU led an exposure trip for children from the Care and Support Children Home. The group visited Fazl Ali College to tour the botany lab, zoology museum, and digitised classrooms. They also stopped at the Horticulture Department Nursery and the State Agriculture Research Station in Yisemyong. District Child Protection Officer Samuel Kapu stated these visits build confidence and encourage academic ambition.
