Kohima: Nagaland chapters of the Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha gathered at the Rotary Club in Dimapur on Friday. They honored the 125th birth anniversary of party founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. Phomisonla Chang led the proceedings while Emi Lotha opened the event with prayer.
BJYM general secretary Likao Odyuo detailed the life of the late politician. He framed Mukherjee as a vital educationist and a nationalist who fought for unity. Odyuo specifically highlighted his fierce resistance to the permit system in Jammu and Kashmir. This remains a dark chapter in the nation's political timeline.
Odyuo recounted that Dr. Mukherjee was held in custody for 43 days by the then J&K government before his untimely demise in 1953, a subject that remains significant in India’s political history. Students from Cornerstone College joined the party members and leaders to reflect on his career.
BJMM president Tsachola Rothrong and BJYM president V. Khekato Awomi attended the session alongside other party officials. The ceremony wrapped up with a vote of thanks and a group rendition of the National Anthem.
